The “Sico” mobile phone… the first locally manufactured Egyptian mobile phone
SICO Egypt, in partnership with the Chinese company Megan, has released the first mobile phone bearing the slogan “Made in Egypt”, with a local manufacturing percentage of more than 45%, with investments estimated at 400 million pounds, in the Assiut Technology Zone through five production lines launched by the Egyptian Silicon Industries Company, thus SICO has become the owner of the first Egyptian brand in the field of mobile phones.
The production capacity of the factory, which is built on an area of 4520 square meters, is estimated at about 1.8 million devices annually, with prices ranging between 200 pounds and 4200 pounds, and the motherboard of the phone is manufactured locally, in addition to pressing the external screen with the touch screen and calibrating it, then assembly is done on “SKD” lines and very accurate tests are conducted using the latest advanced testing devices in the world.
The factory’s workforce is 500 engineers, technicians, workers and administrators. The factory has 5 production lines that are the most modern in the Middle East and Africa, including two lines for producing the motherboard “SMT”, two lines for assembling devices “SKD”, in addition to an integrated packaging line. The company has a strong network of technical support and maintenance centers in Cairo, Giza, Alexandria, Sharkia, Assiut and Luxor, in addition to 25 maintenance points in all governorates of Egypt, in addition to 40 contracted service centers in the Arab and African regions to provide full support to all customers.
It is targeted to start the production process of several versions of the “Sico” phone with the “Android” system, and it will carry all the applications used on other famous phones, including “WhatsApp”, “Imo”, “Instagram” and email. The phone will be made 100% Egyptian within two years, after transferring technological expertise from the Chinese partner to Egypt.
The communications and information technology sector is also preparing to announce the manufacture of the first tablet in Egypt, with 45% local components, through the “Sico” electronics factory, in cooperation with the Ministry of State for Military Production, to meet the needs of the education development system in Egypt.
